Carmel High School Business Students Earn Top Placements at Regional Competition

Students from Carmel High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) student-organization put their skills to the test at this year’s regional competition.

Six students participated in 13 events during the competition and brought 12 awards home to Carmel. Of the six performance events available, Carmel students placed in the top three finalists in each:

Performance Events

  • Introduction to Decision Making: Samantha Cardinali, Grade 10 (1st place)
  • Introduction to Public Speaking: Ava Florez, Grade 10 (1st place)
  • Public Speaking: Annabelle Gesson, Grade 12 (2nd place)
  • Job Interview: Jack Curtis, Grade 12 (3rd place)
  • Impromptu Speaking: Tayte Wong, Grade 12 (3rd place)
  • Client Service: Sloane Hazzard, Grade 12 (3rd place)

Written Events

  • Accounting Exam: Tayte Wong, Grade 12 (2nd place) & Jack Curtis, Grade 12 (4th place)
  • Introduction to Business Math: Samantha Cardinali, Grade 10 (2nd place)
  • Introduction to FBLA: Samantha Cardinali, Grade 10 (1st place) & Ava Florez, Grade 10 (2nd place)
  • Business Communications: Annabelle Gesson, Grade 12 (4th place)

FBLA students hold trophies and certificates

Students that placed in first or second place will move on to the state-level competition in April.

“The students were outstanding,” said Mary Odell, Career and Technical Education Department chair and FBLA student organization adviser. “It was a night of celebration and tears for some students as it was their first trophy ever.”
