CCSD Honors Military Veterans

Three students show off their thank you cards
In Carmel Central School District, we are proud to honor our military veterans for their service, and our students and staff organized opportunities to express their gratitude this week.

Elementary students at Kent Primary School showed their creativity and compassion by creating thank you cards and writing letters to veterans. The cards will be delivered to veterans by KPS PTO members who helped organize the effort.

Students at George Fischer Middle School and Carmel High School answered the call to create thank you cards and artwork for Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit that supports members of the military, veterans and first responders. The schools collected several hundred cards and letters for the nonprofit!

"It was an amazing collaboration between schools, and students wrote beautiful notes of thanks and demonstrated their creativity with their artwork," said CHS English/ENL Teacher Alicia Burns who spearheaded the effort at the two schools. "I was blown away when I opened the huge envelopes of cards, and honestly, started to cry. We are a military family, and just seeing how many of these students wrote such kind, genuine, and heartfelt messages of appreciation was truly amazing."
