Middle School Thanksgiving Food Drive Supports Local Families

Thanksgiving plates will be filled for a few local families in need after another successful year of the George Fischer Middle School General Organization’s (GO) annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.

GO Officers and advisers pose with a box of donated foodThe club distributed festively decorated boxes to classrooms throughout the school building in November with a simple but important ask for fellow students and staff to donate non-perishable food items to support district families in need.

At the conclusion of the drive, club officers and their advisers met afterschool to collect the donated items from classrooms throughout the building, sort the donations, and package the items into well-rounded donation boxes.

Through the drive, the club collected enough food items to create 20-30 boxes which were distributed through district social workers to families in need. In addition to the items collected, the GO used money from its club fund to purchase turkeys and other needed items to accompany the boxes.

The GO club members believe it is important to give back and are always eager to direct club funds to support causes and needs within the school and community.

Each year, the club collects more food than is needed for the boxes donated to families in the District. The club typically partners with the Putnam Community Action Partnership (CAP) or a local church to ensure that the additional donations help support the local community further – a tradition that continued this year thanks to the success of the drive!
