Middle School Artists Featured in 94th Assembly District Art Show

In late-May, several George Fischer Middle School students had the opportunity to participate in the 94th Assembly District Art Show and Competition hosted by the Putnam Arts Council and Assemblyman Kevin Byrne. The show, hosted during the week of May 21-29, is in its second year and was open to all middle school students within the 94th Assembly District.

Student with artwork

George Fischer Middle School was represented with artwork from nine students in Grade 6 and 7 among the 18 total students in the show. The theme for the show this year was “Nature,” and our students submitted a variety of animal artwork that was created throughout the academic quarter.

Students in Grade 6 submitted art pieces of local animals and plants created using a printmaking technique. The students carved images into foam blocks to create stamps and used water-soluble markers for ink to make prints on special watercolor paper. Students in Grade 7 submitted glue drawings on black paper – a technique where outlines were created using standard school glue and then once dried, color pencils were used to color inside the outlines.

Our talented students who exhibited artwork during the show included:

  • Mark Benitez, Grade 6
  • Savannah Calabrese, Grade 7
  • Killian Crosby, Grade 7
  • Camila Edmond-Pena, Grade 6
  • Karissa Escaravage, Grade 7
  • Rosemary Feliciano, Grade 6
  • Mia Filardo, Grade 7
  • Lylah Kievit, Grade 7
  • Jax Rapisarda, Grade 6

In addition to having artwork displayed in the show, students Killian Crosby and Lylah Kievit both received Honorable Mention Awards for their submissions.
