Middle School Students Explore World Languages Out in the World

Over the last several weeks, Grade 8 World Language students at George Fischer Middle School had the opportunity to take the language skills and cultural knowledge they have learned in the classroom and apply it to the world outside the walls of the school.

Students studying Italian and French had the opportunity to visit and tour the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park to learn about the many different career paths which utilize world language skills. While there, they participated in a taste test to learn about the different flavors the tongue can detect and how influential this is in the culinary industry. The field trip included a special lunch feast featuring many different European delicacies. Yum!

In celebration of El Día de Los Muertos, students studying Spanish were treated to a movie-theater-style viewing of the Disney film, Coco, and an authentic Mexican lunch at Pueblo Viejo in Carmel. The students were able to utilize their Spanish-speaking skills while at the restaurant.

What awesome opportunities for our students to learn and grow as well-rounded global citizens!
