Telling Time with Ladybugs

There was nothing grouchy about learning to tell time for Kerry Bischoff’s class at Kent Elementary School. Using the beloved classic book, The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle, Bischoff had her young learners using their critical-thinking skills to connect the dots to learn all about hours, minutes and clocks!

The lesson also incorporated social-emotional elements by having the students reflect on their own emotions.

"The Grouchy Ladybug is by far one of the most fun books to use when introducing time to students," said Bischoff. "My students loved using their ladybug clocks to practice telling time. They also loved putting on their "grouchy face" and writing about a time that they have felt grouchy just like the grouchy ladybug!"

"At 9:00, I was grouchy because my dog always put things in her mouth like shoes and toys. It makes me grouchy," wrote student Faith.
