Welcome to Curriculum & Instruction
Dear families,
The Office of Curriculum and Instruction is dedicated to ensuring that every student in the Carmel Central School District engages in learning that is rigorous, inclusive, and meaningful. Our curriculum is aligned to the New York State Learning Standards while also reflecting the latest research-based practices, ensuring that instruction reflects tradition and embraces innovation.
We are committed to creating classrooms where students are challenged academically, supported socially and emotionally, and encouraged to explore their passions. Instruction across all grade levels is intentionally designed to strengthen the 6 Cs: Character, Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking, so that students are prepared not only for academic achievement, but also for success in life beyond their Carmel school experience.
Collaboration with families, educators, and the community is essential to this work. Together, we can provide an educational experience that empowers every student to thrive and contribute to the world around them.

Our Mission
The Carmel Central School District educates the whole student through partnerships to become lifelong learners in an ever-changing world. We work to align our district mission, vision, and 6 C's to our curriculum and instructional practices within the classrooms.

New York State Assessment System
The New York State Education Department provides a comprehensive assessment system. Students are tested for:
- English Language Arts and Mathematics: Grades 3-8
- Science: Grades 4 & 8
- Regents Exams: Grades 8-12
